- mickerdooJuly 5, 2025Out of left fields with ultra fixation. But otherwise fun, interesting and with cool lighting design. Felt they played it safe at the end.
- Bob BlanchettJune 28, 2025Discovery through Magic! And the Late Phil Dodds operating the Synth on the dark side of the moon! He came on set to install it and Spielberg cast him on the spot and gave him a few lines! Such a wonderful movie keeps turning up wonderful happenstance!
- RyezooFebruary 15, 2025I don't know why, but this didn't work for me. I love Spielberg and have only known about this film. I went in blind and excited at the opportunity to see it for the first time and it be in the theater and left underwhelmed. Theres a few great scenes in here from the the first and second encounters with the aliens that were honestly the best part. I just never got into the story once it got going. I found Richard Dreyfus's character turn into somebody I couldn't get behind. Where he ends up in the third act and his actions suck. I also didn't connect with his descent into madness. The score was fantastic and the ships look awesome for the time they were made. The aliens not so much. I'm just surprised how simple this film is. I get the bigger picture here, I just didn't find it as fascinating as everyone else. I'm glad to have finally checked this movie off my watchlist though.
- Mister ArnMay 13, 2025"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" demonstrates the ability of a film to create a captivating tale without violence. It's a movie that can draw you in repeatedly, yet the magic of the initial viewing is unrepeatable.
- 匚卂尺ㄥFebruary 23, 2025Aside from Spielberg`s auspicious groundbreaking genius, I notice strong undertones of plot. The first of these is the scene where the air traffic controllers tactfully refrain from verbally ratifying and documenting UFOs on their radar screens , conveying the sense, to me, that these things might actually happen in real life. Secondly, the plight of the main character who ulitimately agrees to be abducted by the aliens after abductees are returned. On his way to this happening, he is separated from his family whom he abandons because of a mental illness created by his psychic connection with the extraterrestials and he even connects with another woman on a personal level, who is also affected by this phenomenon. Finally I would say that Spielberg points out that these things happen all over the world and, that powerful people with specialist authority and knowledge are already engaged with this anomaly. All in all, this film is a challenging white knuckle ride but, in an exhilarating and secure kind of way.
