Cleopatra Jones Ratings & Reviews

Cleopatra Jones is no Coffy or Foxy Brown but she still kicks plenty of ass. Tamara Dobson holds her own and doesn't put up with any foolery- even against "Mommy" (legitimately the drug kingpin's name) Shelley Winters. Some very exciting shoot outs and car chases, bogs down in the middle a bit, and the finale is the usual cliche fight in the junkyard with a victim in a car getting crushed.
Baltimore Afro-American
Frederick I. Douglas
It is particularly interesting because of the positive image conveyed about Black women.
Variety
Variety Staff
Tamara Dobson makes a smart starring debut, after fashion model and teleblurb work, as the title character, a sophisticated undercover agent working to stamp out the world drug trade.
The Lesbian Tide
Jeanne Córdova
Take your $3.00 and go buy some sticks and poster board and stand outside and picket. That's the only potentially feminist contribution of Cleopatra Jones.
Film Frenzy
Matt Brunson
Revelatory not only as a black film but also as a feminist feature.
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews
Dennis Schwartz
Plenty of low brow humor.
East Bay Express
Kelly Vance
Six-foot-two-inch onetime fashion model Tamara Dobson isn't quite in the same category as Pam Grier, but on the strength of this she has to rank right up there.
TV Guide
TV Guide Staff
A fairly tame, fairly lame blaxploitation footnote, starring drop-dead gorgeous Tamara Dobson and her improbable wardrobe.
Chicago Sun-Times
Roger Ebert
The movie is put together in a sort of disjointed way; there are too many characters, and some of them disappear for so long, we forget them. But that doesn't matter much.
