Champagne and Bullets Ratings & Reviews
- Rob MacKinnonAugust 19, 2025Watched for #HDTGM podcast. I watched the Champagne and Bullets version on Hoopla (99 minutes). Colossally incompetent on every conceivable level. There are multiple incredibly awkward sex scenes with the lead character Rick played by writer/director/casting director/singer-songwriter John De Hart. All of them are incredibly long and creepy and underscored (or I should say OVERSCORED) by the worst songs ever written or performed. It’s all incredibly earnest but executed so terribly that it becomes laughable. Unfortunately the laughs are marred by a completely unnecessary graphic rape scene towards the end that nearly makes the entire film reprehensible. ADDENDUM: I skimmed through the version called “GetEven” and the most gratuitous part of the rape scene has been removed, but it is still heavily implied. Also trimmed are heads and tails of some scenes that originally went on way too long (including hearing the director say “action” in one case). However, at the funeral, Cindy is still referred to as Cynthia by the priest, and no one seems to notice or care. Overall, still laughably terrible.
