Nearly a decade after occupation by an extraterrestrial force, the lives of a Chicago neighborhood on both sides of the conflict are explored. In a working-class Chicago neighborhood occupied by an alien force for nine years, increased surveillance and the restriction of civil rights have given rise to an authoritarian system - and dissent among the populace.

Captive State Ratings & Reviews
- shawnkhallNovember 2, 2025Not worth watching. It would probably have been fine as a series or even a miniseries where they could have provided sufficient detail to expand on the characters more, but it was trying to fit way too much detail into a short form film, while leaving out enough of the plot and character development to make you scratch your head at the end.
- Kristian OdlandJuly 30, 2025I really love the gritty, guerrilla-style of filmmaking used. And I always applaud the "less is more" approach when it comes to CGI. When a film allows the viewer to use their imagination, it brings things a little closer to reality. Overall, a pretty solid sci-fi thriller with a lot of original and distinctive elements.
- jackmeatJune 1, 2025My quick rating - 5.8/10. I did like the story that they focused on, but it seems so much was left to either the introduction of typing on a computer screen or for you to piece together all the things that should have been happening. Instead, we are merely keen on the interaction between the human cop (Goodman) and a local boy (Sanders) who is fighting for the resistance in this alien occupation film. What they did have was good, with an intricate enough plot, but I will warn you. Pay attention, not because it is overly confusing, but they take a lot of storytelling visually, often with long scenes with no speaking at all. At one point, I checked the soundbar to make sure it was still on. In the world that is now under extra-terrestrial control, a resistance hides underground, and our story here revolves around the Chicago version. The effects of the "roaches," as they are called, are pretty good and surely a step away from the norm for the ETs. Not a bad watch.
