Culture clash, road trips, hurricanes and a youth culture that would challenge the status quo. Broken Waves is the story of the first surf scene to emerge from the upper Texas Coast. An unlikely scenario by any stretch of the imagination. Through the testimonials of Galveston's rat pack, the Treasure Isle Surf Club and Houston's first board builders, the film encapsulates the surfing boom of the 60s as it played out in Texas. A "cultural revolution" to some, their stories are honest and true, and with the muddy waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the new thrill of riding waves as their common bond, lifelong friendships were forged. Some stayed put, others migrated to California or Hawaii and now, fifty years later, they reunite one more time.
