Body Brokers Ratings & Reviews

My quick rating - 6.4/10. Pretty powerful story about drug addiction, but really the story is about abusing the rehab system for profit. The acting in this one is quite good and makes you actually care about the people involved in the scheme. The movie was about to take a "Goodfellas" type turn, which was going to bother me, but it held back from doing so. I didn't want this to end up being glamorized in this flick, but instead stay focused on the problem, which it did. This is more likely a drama than a crime, thriller as it is billed, but has aspects of all three. Just don't expect action or any form of mystery as to what is going on. This is straight up get paid to check people into your rehab center, knowing that paying them to do so will result in repeat visits when they start using again. That isn't a spoiler; that is exactly what addiction does. Not really the most positive movie around, but still a well-made one. I think it could've focused development a bit elsewhere and left things that it had time to cover, but still worth checking out.

"This is a film about where capitalism fails addicts," Swab comments. Of course, mass drug addiction is already an expression of capitalism's massive failure and growing crisis. In any case, Body Brokers shines a light on one of its many graveyards.

The banal filmmaking doesn't aid in the dragging pace, nor does the superficial screenplay find any real inventive means to comment on its empty themes.

The film rallies for a bracing finale, but despite the bold ending, Body Brokers never manages to rise above being a noble failure.

The film does an admirable job pulling us in and making us care...
Common Sense Media

Swab lulls viewers into a hopeful example of someone overcoming the odds ... and then sporadically punches us in the face with the realities of the film's world.

While Body Brokers never quite comes together, it does have enough things going for it.

A gem that's worth checking out. Shines a light on a diabolical practice few people know about.

... knows its gritty territory but struggles to make a deeper impact.
Los Angeles Times

The plot here is too plain, but the details are vivid and the outrage palpable. If nothing else, this movie is one hell of an education.

Body Brokers is compelling, both as a straightforward investigation into an exploitative crime ... and as an honest depiction of ... addiction.
Cinema Crazed

Body Brokers is a film that has an important message, but it gets a little lost in the proceedings. The narration brings it back on track at the end, but it should not have taken this to make it be able to pass its message.
We Live Entertainment
Aaron Neuwirth
While director John Swab uses this framework to get around the typical story involving drug abusers, this thriller never really finds the right rhythm to stick with.
Blu-ray.com
Brian Orndorf
Gets lost while attempting to be a searing study of fraud, with Swab often more interested in crime movie formula, fearing that any sort of direct, sustained confrontation of the treatment industry won't hold audience attention.
AIPT
Nathaniel Muir
Refusing to stick to the normal story about overcoming drug addiction is refreshing, but also removes much of the emotion those films are known for.
Punch Drunk Critics
Travis Hopson
While individual aspects of Body Brokers work to expose a fraud that uses drug addicts like ATM machines, the lack of focus distracts from the righteous anger we should be feeling about that.
One Guy's Opinion
Frank Swietek
Tries hard to be a powerful exposé of a seamy business, but doesn't have the requisite urgency and anger to pull it off.
The Only Critic
Nate Adams
In trying to present "The Big Short" drug edition, "Body Brokers" competes with itself by spinning two different narratives that never formulate into one cohesive vision
