⭐⭐⭐⭐½ – Black Panther – A superhero movie that remembered to build a world. By the time Black Panther arrived, Marvel had already given us plenty of heroes, origin stories, and world-ending threats. What made this one stand out was that it felt like it was introducing an entire nation rather than just another superhero. Wakanda is the real star of the film. The worldbuilding is fantastic, creating a culture that feels unique, believable, and lived in. The blend of advanced technology, tradition, politics, and history gives the movie an identity that separates it from many other entries in the Marvel catalogue. Of course, none of that would work without Chadwick Boseman. His portrayal of T'Challa is measured, thoughtful, and dignified. Rather than being the loudest person in the room, he leads through quiet confidence, which makes him stand out among many of Marvel's more flamboyant heroes. The supporting cast is equally strong, but the standout has to be Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger. Like the best villains, he's not simply evil for the sake of it. You may not agree with his methods, but you can understand his motivations. In fact, there are moments where you find yourself wondering whether he has a point, which gives the conflict far more depth than the average superhero film. Visually, the film is stunning, and the soundtrack helps reinforce its unique identity. While the final act falls into some of the familiar superhero-movie traps of big CGI battles, the strength of the characters and worldbuilding carries it through. More than anything, Black Panther deserves credit for doing something increasingly difficult in the superhero genre: it felt different. It wasn't just another hero punching another villain. It was a story about leadership, responsibility, heritage, and the future of a nation. A fantastic film and one of the strongest entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 🍷 A glass of fine red wine served in a carved wooden goblet — rich, distinctive, and carrying far more depth than you first expect.

The complexities that lie within the villain Erik Killmonger, along with its brilliant soundscape and rich cultural themes, positions Black Panther as one of the greatest superhero movies of all time.

    ## Synopsis With T'Challa becoming King of Wakanda after the death of his father in [[Captain America Civil War]], he must protect his throne and his country's way of life when a mysterious challenger appears challenging the throne. ## Review I think this is a wonderful movie, but there are some things that I cannot stand, and they are extremely consistent in the movie. Let us start with the things that really upset me. As I have said in [[Without Remorse]] and [[Highest 2 Lowest]], Michael B. Jordan is mostly an entitled person who thinks he is owed something. He was great in [[Sinners]], but this movie is the main proof of that entitlement that he brings to most of his movies. He shows up, says he is owed, and he deserves this because something bad happened to him. While what happened was absolutely terrible, he dies on a hill thinking he can and should change something to right the world in his way. This is sense of being owed is compounded when T'Challa's best friend decides that to side with Jordan's character. There are some jokes that also just seem really dumb. There is a scene where a rhino just stops charging at full speed and within a couple seconds because the right person stepped in the way. Add that to the jokes that were funny in 2000 like "what are those?!!" Maybe it is just lost on me, but it really felt like it was dumbed down. With that out of the way, we can finally talk about Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, and Winston Duke just making play things of this movie. They were outstanding and really brought out their best performance. I believed what they believed. I felt what they felt. M'Baku is my favorite character in this. Playing the leader that think through the steps of what needs to be done, even if he doesn't like it. Loved it. The fight scenes and technology are really cool. The Afrofuturism the is both legitimately and figuratively woven into the background culture of Wakanda is outstanding. Their cloaks are shields. The beads are communicators. There is just an overwhelming amount of outstanding design and thought that you can easily miss how smartly it was done, especially during the fight scenes. It just flows and blends in perfectly. ## [My Rating](epicscreentime com/rating-rules/) I enjoy this movie. It is fun to watch, the pacing is really good, and the story makes sense from a story arch perspective. No issues with that. I have issues with the thinness of some of the characters that are supposed to be pretty big villains. Killmonger is a beast, I mean look at the costume design for his armor, and Jordan did a fantastic job of just proving that, but his performance/the writing just killed the character for me. The jokes only land once and then it because an eye rolling movie. It is just a constant back and forth. So I am giving it a 7. ## [Parental Rating](epicscreentime com/rating-rules/) This is a movie about family doing the right thing. A movie with a lot of social references that my parents wouldn't get. However, I know my dad did enjoy watching it because the language was limited for the most part. My mom isn't really into these movies, but the family element might have her give it a try if a grandkid asked. I am going to say approved by both, even though I don't think they would watch it on their own.

Strength in Identity "Black Panther" stands as one of the most culturally significant entries in the MCU, combining superhero spectacle with themes of identity, heritage, and responsibility. While it follows a fairly familiar structure for the genre, the film distinguishes itself through its world-building and thematic focus. Wakanda is easily one of the movie's greatest strengths. The setting feels rich and vibrant, blending advanced technology with strong cultural traditions. Visually, the film creates a unique atmosphere that gives it a clear identity within the MCU. The performances are strong across the board, with the cast bringing conviction and presence to their roles. The character dynamics help ground the story, and the emotional stakes feel meaningful throughout much of the film. The action sequences are entertaining, though some moments rely heavily on visual effects that don't always feel as polished as the rest of the production. The narrative itself is engaging, but it largely follows the typical path of an origin-style superhero story. Despite some familiar storytelling beats, "Black Panther" remains a compelling and important chapter in the MCU thanks to its strong themes and memorable world-building.

It looks really stupid. The creators tried to simultaneously show the uniqueness of the African peoples and the technological advancement of Wakanda, but it turned out that even with technology, Africans remain savages.

Awesome effects, great story and superbly casted. Definitely an asset to the MCU. Also happy for what this meant to the black community.

The world building for Wakanda, the likable and relatable characters, and the not so subtle messaging makes this easily one of the best superhero movies.

Top-tier MCU! Killmonger is the best-written villain in the entire franchise.
