Black Mask 2: City of Masks Ratings & Reviews

My quick rating - 3.5/10. Let me explain. Almost so ridiculous it was worth keeping. Almost. I can only assume they handed some 2nd grade kids some crayons and had them draw out some ideas for their favorite things. These images were handed to the writers to work a story around them. What they ended up with was a sequel to a pretty good Jet Li flick that has nearly zero to do with the first. Let me sum this up. A wrestling promotion is combining DNA from animals with their human wrestlers ( another Rob Van Dam sighting) to make their characters far more believable. Well, the evil leader of the organization, Tobin Bell, has taken this a bit too far and starts turning them into hybrid animal/human monsters. Mr. Li was smart enough to steer far away from this abomination of a flick, but somehow they roped the highly underrated Scott Adkins into being a heavy for the bad guys. So our black mask this time, Andy On, is on the case to try and stop them, but instead ends up injected with DNA from something (they never really explain what animal) and now not only needs to stop them from blowing off a mutation bomb to alter the world into these creatures, but also save himself. The fighting sequences in this movie are just as over the top as the plot. They completely blow off even using wire effects and just allow people to basically fly, among other laws of physics ignored. I did find myself laughing far more often than I should be, since it was just so damn stupid. And that leads me back to the first line. Almost. Oh, and just an additional name that had a role in this movie....Traci Lords. Yes, she plays the chameleon and might have actually been the best character of the whole mess. If you are a fan of cheesy flix, you may have to put this on your list to see it.

Perhaps it's best just to forgive Hark and hope he moves on quickly from this major stumble.

A hybrid combination of "X Men", impressive stunts, special effects and martial arts action, "Black Mask 2: City of Masks" is sure to please fans of the original
