⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Big Hero 6 – Grief, healing, and inflatable robots. This is an amazing film that manages to balance a surprising amount of emotional weight with genuine fun. Underneath the bright colours, action, and comedy, there’s a story dealing with loss, grief, loneliness, friendship, and the importance of the people who pull you back together when life falls apart. What really makes it work is how sincere it is. The emotional moments never feel manipulative, and the lighter scenes don’t undercut the heavier ones. Instead, the film lets both exist side by side naturally. One minute you’re laughing at Baymax struggling to navigate stairs or diagnose someone with a fist bump, and the next you’re hit with a genuinely heartfelt moment about coping with loss. Baymax himself is honestly one of Disney’s best modern creations. He’s funny without being irritating, lovable without feeling forced, and somehow manages to become the emotional centre of the entire film despite being, essentially, an inflatable healthcare robot. Visually, it’s gorgeous too. The futuristic city setting has a really unique style — a blend of Eastern and Western influences that gives the whole world its own identity rather than feeling like another generic sci-fi backdrop. I’ve watched this several times now, both alone and with other people, and it always holds up. It’s one of those rare animated films that works equally well as comfort viewing, family viewing, or just a genuinely good movie in its own right. And honestly, it’s also one of the very few manga/anime-inspired things that I’ve really connected with. The style and influences are there, but they’re blended in a way that feels accessible without losing their identity. A modern classic as far as I’m concerned. 🍜 A hot bowl of ramen on a rainy night — comforting, warm, and somehow capable of making you smile and tear up at the same time.

I just watched Big Hero 6 and I give it 2 out of 5 stars. I know a lot of people love this movie, but for me it did not connect the way I hoped it would. I expected a powerful emotional story mixed with exciting action, but instead I felt like the movie had strong ideas that never fully came together. It has a few touching moments and some creative visuals, but overall it left me feeling a bit empty. I never fully connected to the characters or the world the way I wanted to, and that made the whole experience weaker than I expected. The movie starts with interesting potential. It introduces a bright and futuristic world that looks fun and full of life. The setting has creativity and color, and the animation is smooth and clean. The idea of mixing advanced technology with emotional storytelling is a great concept. I could see what the movie was trying to do, but the execution felt uneven. Instead of being pulled into the world, I felt like I was watching something that looked nice but did not have a strong emotional center. The big moments did not hit as hard as I thought they would, and some scenes felt predictable instead of powerful. The main character has a solid foundation for great emotional development, but I felt like the movie rushed through his growth. There were moments where the story tried to explore loss, grief, and healing, but it moved too quickly to the next scene instead of letting the emotions breathe. The emotional moments should have carried more weight, but the pacing made them feel lighter than they should have been. I wanted more depth and more time spent on the personal struggle that the character was going through. Baymax is one of the best parts of the movie. He is sweet, gentle, and brings a calm energy to every scene he is in. His simple personality is charming, and he gives the story warmth when it needs it. Even though I liked him, I still felt like the movie relied too heavily on his cuteness instead of building deeper emotional connections. The bond between him and the main character had potential, but the movie did not explore it enough for me to fully feel their relationship. The supporting characters were not very memorable for me. They each had fun designs and unique abilities, but they never felt like more than basic background characters. Their personalities were not explored deeply, and their interactions felt more like quick jokes than real connections. I wanted to care about them, but the movie did not give me enough moments to make that happen. The action scenes are colorful and fast, but they felt repetitive at times. I did not feel much excitement because the emotional weight behind the action was missing. The stakes did not feel strong, and the villain’s motivations did not hit hard enough for me to feel invested. The movie had all the right pieces to make something powerful, but it never used them in a way that truly moved me. By the time the movie ended, I felt like it was a visually pretty film that did not give me much to hold onto emotionally. It has heart, but the heart gets lost under rushed storytelling and shallow character development. Big Hero 6 had potential, but for me it did not reach it. It earned its 2 out of 5 rating from me.

Big Hero 6 is a perfect example of what can happen when creators are given real freedom to shape an animated film: something vibrant, heartfelt, and utterly fun. Loosely inspired by the Marvel comics, it reinvents the superhero team concept in a colourful, futuristic world that feels fresh and full of personality. The bond between Hiro and Baymax carries the emotional weight, while the rest of the team brings humour, energy, and genuine charm. The action scenes are lively and inventive, the animation is gorgeous, and the music ties everything together with just the right emotional beats. While the story stands strongly on its own, the film had so much potential for a direct sequel. Instead, the franchise shifted toward animated TV shows—good in their own right, but not quite the same as another big-screen adventure. Even so, Big Hero 6 remains a wonderful, uplifting superhero film that blends warmth, excitement, and creativity beautifully.
