- Tanalien9. januar 2025Studios would do well to take the right notes on why Barbie became 2023’s great cinematic phenomenon. This is not Mattel’s movie; it is writer-director Greta Gerwig’s expression through and through. Barbie is connecting with so many people because Gerwig has attached a well-known property to the best hallmarks of her style: honesty, sensitivity, and self-discovery. I am excited to see the next story she tells in the movie theater.
- jackmeat11. juni 2026My quick rating - 6.6/10. Time to finally see what all the hype was about. Surely Barbie couldn't possibly be as bad as some people made it out to be. After all, it stars Margot Robbie. Right? Then the movie immediately landed one of its best jokes. "Note to the filmmakers: Margot Robbie is the wrong person to cast if you want to make this point." That line got a genuine laugh out of me. Right from the start, Barbie shows it's fully aware of itself, and that self-awareness ends up being my favorite part. Life in Barbieland is exactly what you'd expect. Bright pink perfection, dream houses without walls, endless dance parties, and a population convinced every single day is the best day ever. Everything runs with the kind of efficiency that would make most governments jealous. Barbie is living her ideal life, while Ken is...also there. Sort of. His entire personality revolves around getting Barbie's attention, which sounds like a simple joke at first but becomes surprisingly important as the story unfolds. Margot Robbie feels like she was built in a Mattel factory specifically for this role. She manages to portray the confidence and allure of Barbie along with her grandiose nature without taking away from her accessibility. While Robbie shines in the film, Ryan Gosling comes close to stealing the whole show. His version of Ken is gloriously ridiculous from beginning to end. Every scene feels like Gosling woke up and chose maximum chaos, and the film is better for it. What surprised me most was how well crafted the screenplay was. Making a movie about the doll line seems like it would go something along the lines of someone demanding an emergency exit point. Yet, Barbie creates an interesting story by exploring themes of identity, purpose, and finding your place when you don’t fit the assigned role anymore. This is way more profound than I thought for a film set in the universe created within a pink dreamland. The real-world portions are where the film really finds another gear. Watching Barbie and Ken interact with reality creates some genuinely funny moments while allowing the story's themes to hit a little harder. The inclusion of Mattel itself was a brilliant choice, and Will Ferrell feels right at home as the company's eccentric CEO. The fact that the film openly turns Mattel into part of the joke somehow makes the whole thing even funnier. My only real hurdle was the musical side of things. The songs are well-produced, visually impressive, and clearly beloved by audiences, but musicals have never been my thing. Every time the story got rolling, another musical number would arrive and briefly remind me that I am not the target audience for spontaneous singing. That's entirely a personal preference issue, though, because the sequences themselves are executed extremely well. In the end, Barbie turns out to be a whole lot more fun than I thought it would be. Not only is it hilarious, but it looks great, and the acting by Robbie and Gosling works so well. The musical numbers did get on my nerves, but the creativity and humor more than made up for it. What could have been a simple toy adaptation ended up becoming one of the most enjoyable surprises of the year.
- Callum28. december 2025⭐⭐⭐ – Barbie – Neon spectacle with a message that trips over itself. I don’t think this is a bad movie at all, but the sheer number of people treating it like Shakespeare is genuinely bewildering. It’s clever in places, stylish almost everywhere, but it’s not the razor-sharp masterpiece some made it out to be. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling both do excellent work. Robbie threads the needle between icon and character, while Gosling fully commits to Ken in a way that’s self-aware, ridiculous, and often the funniest thing in the film. Their performances are easily the strongest element, and whenever the movie leans into character rather than thesis, it works best. Where it fell down for me was the logic of the world-building. If the executives already know about Barbieland, then Barbie arriving in the real world shouldn’t really be a shock — and that disconnect kept pulling me out of the story. The film wants surprise and discovery, but it undermines itself by quietly admitting the grown-ups already know how the trick works. There are genuinely funny moments. Barbie discovering that drinks actually exist inside cups is a great bit of physical comedy, and there are flashes of wit scattered throughout. Visually, the neon-soaked world is a full sensory assault — it blasted me straight back to the ’90s in the best possible way… though I’m not convinced my retinas have fully forgiven it yet. Entertaining, well-performed, occasionally sharp, but far messier and less profound than its loudest fans would have you believe. 🍹 A neon cocktail with far too much garnish — bright, sweet, and fun at first sip, but not something you’d want all night.
- OdinTheRavenKing21. maj 2026## Synopsis Barbie is living her life without a worry until a party occurs where she thinks about dying. This forces her to go the outside world, the human world, and discover it isn't what she thought it was. ## Review This is an adorable movie. Incredibly funny for both kids and adults. The comedy can at times be adult favored, but I think unless you are immature, you can laugh and know that it will mostly go over your kids heads. Funnily enough, this was one of the movies that really made me feel that Ryan Gosling might be alright for the [[Project Hail Mary Movie]]. There was something about him signing "I'm just Ken" and the ending that really made me feel that he felt bad. The acting of course was way over the top, which is the point. However, in the over the top there is a serious tone in the world that are used. That is due to the writing. The story is not supposed to be serious. The writing is. There are some crazy lessons that can be applied to both Men and Women about how to handle the stresses of life. There also is line of how previous generations have been responsible for a lot of where the world is. However, there is a great family moment that is in line with [[Freaky Friday]]. ## [My Rating] This is a funny movie. I know people are really upset with the opening strings of jokes. A lot of adult jokes for sure. However, it is objectively funny. There are some solid one-liners and it is entertaining. Margot Robbie and Ryan are genuinely outstanding. This is a solid movie to watch. This is a 9. ## [Parental Rating] There is a ton of adult joke. I cannot express to you how many there are. However, there is no nudity, and the language isn't over the top. I am not sure if my parents are interested in the actual movie, but I do think there is a world in which they would watch it if asked. Based on the rules, my Dad is out. My Mom is in. Rejected by Dad and approved by Mom.

- Kevin Ward2. juli 2025It’s unapologetically feminist, down-with-the-patriarchy theme, was not what I was expecting, but ultimately one of the things I loved the most, second only to the production values for Barbieland. Barbieland is magnificently realized in every aspect. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are both pitch perfect. I was hoping for more from the supporting cast, but most aren’t given hardly anything to do. (How does Ritu Arya have no lines?) Kate McKinnon’s weird Barbie is great, America Ferrera and Arianna Greenblatt were standouts as well. My wife and I were just talking about Rhea Pearlman and how we hadn’t seen her in anything in a long time, so it was really nice to see her. It’s pretty funny throughout, but not all of the jokes 100% land. I felt the third act resolution to the Kendom situation somewhat underwhelming. But I found the ultimate ending for Margot and the last montage to be a perfect and emotionally moving note to end on. It’s a pretty weird movie even if I love the messaging. I’m not sure it’s one I would rewatch very often and doesn’t seem like one my kids would eagerly rewatch either, even though they enjoyed it as well. Learning about Sugar’s Daddy and Growing Up Skipper, though. — How the f🤩k we’re these real things? 🤦🏻♂️
- macaronz5. maj 2026Just stepped into Barbie's world! You kind of have to 'switch off' your brain and just embrace the pink, but it’s worth it for the visuals alone. The production design is amazing and the makers really nailed the vibe. It’s a lighthearted movie with a nice touch of humor that makes it an easy watch, though I probably wouldn’t see it a second time.
