Master baker Zürrer is an expert in his field, but not a successful father. His two sons in particular aren't doing as well as he hoped for. The older gets involved in shady export deals and goes bankrupt; the younger son becomes a baker, but his primary focus are cycling races. Moreover, his girlfriend, the daughter of an Italian immigrant, is expecting a child.
