Appendage Ratings & Reviews
Kevin Ward
July 2, 2025
Devil Wears Kuato Hannah, a burgeoning fashion designer, battles her inner demons and self doubt as it manifests into a literal monster that emerges from her gut. The allegory plays out a bit on the nose, but has some pretty fun practical effects. I think the first half of the film worked best as Hannah’s discovering what the hell this thing is. Moments where her appendage repeats back the negative things the people in Hannah’s life have said to her were really effective. But in the latter half of the movie there are some very strange turns that I don’t necessarily think worked very well, thematically. I liked it overall, but it’s probably not a film that stays with me for very long.
Loud and Clear Reviews
Joseph Tomastik
The film jumps across the spectrum between intentional horror camp and failed attempts at legitimate drama.

Alexandra Heller-Nicholas
Appendage is first and foremost a lot of fun, and Zlokovic clearly delights in employing older horror movies as a palette through which she can tell her own story of the nightmare many women face as they struggle to live up to impossible expectations
Common Sense Media
Jennifer Green
Appendage tries to add some lighter moments to balance out the horror, but these feel more forced than funny, more hokey than campy.

Nick Allen
A comically freaky look at the inner voices we must learn to live with.
Paste Magazine
Andy Crump
Instead of focusing on a memorable terrorizer, Zlokovic prioritizes the movie's theme, makes the subtext obvious, and puts Appendage's horror in second position behind commentary.

The manner in which Zlokovic crafts and nurtures Appendage tonally is the delightful surprise here... The director goes against the grain of horror-comedy formula and emphasizes psychology over splatter.
Tell-Tale TV
Brianna Martinez
Some of the monster effects take away from what could really be a great movie as it leans more towards 60s and 70s creature feature-esque quality that takes you out of the story.

As an examination of quarter-life anxiety, Appendage is sometimes insightful, but as a horror movie, it never fully realizes its potential.

Caitlyn Downs
A successful expansion of a short film that makes the most of cast chemistry and special effects work.
The Hollywood Outsider
Aaron Peterson
Appendage is sporadic with moments of both glee and insanely campy bizarreness. It never quite finds its footing as a whole, but there are far worse things to watch in the world of horror.
Nightmare on Film Street
Jonathan DeHaan
Wicked good fun with a playful, cartoonish quality like an R Rated Nickelodeon.
Screen Zealots
Louisa Moore
There's a clever premise at the core of this psychological body horror film, but more thought is put into the concept and message versus the entertainment factor.
Screen Rant
Mae Abdulbaki
Appendage has fantastic creature design and a layered, creative story that remains engaging even as its third act becomes a bit tedious.
Dread Central
Mary Beth McAndrews
With 'Appendage', Anna Zlokovic creates a bizarre, disgusting, and relatable horror film that gets to the root of what anxiety feels like.
Sunshine State Cineplex
Alan French
Appendage centers on a very cool concept. However, the execution is lacking. With long periods of inaction and a lack of scares, it rarely lives up to its horror DNA.

Appendage's on-the-nose metaphor loses steam really quickly, which is why it worked better as a short. It's not so much a rich metaphor as an idea that directly announces itself through pointy practical effects teeth.
The Daily Beast
Laura Bradley
The creature design here is both horrifying and delightfully silly. When we first meet the appendage, it looks like some sort of unholy hybrid-like if Dead Baby Voldemort had a baby with a bald Treasure Troll doll.
But Why Tho? A Geek Community
Kate Sánchez
Appendage is a good film that manages to land its message of confronting intrusive thoughts and anxiety while ultimately understanding that it's never truly gone. The film's finale is what drives everything home.
Variety
Dennis Harvey
Despite the grotesque premise, its attack is a little too blunt to make much impact, whether taken as thinly-veiled satire or straight fantasy thriller.
