Stephanie and Emily reunite on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy for Emily's extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.
- Callum1d ago⭐⭐⭐ – Another Simple Favour – Stylish nonsense with a good cast. This is definitely a fun movie. Not Shakespeare by any stretch, but absolutely the sort of slick, twisty watch that goes down easily on a relaxed evening. Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively teaming up again is still the main attraction here. Their chemistry carries a huge amount of the film, especially because the story itself walks a fairly fine line between clever and ridiculous. Thankfully, both actresses understand the tone perfectly and seem to be having a genuinely good time with it. There are definitely twists and turns throughout, though most of them sit in the “entertainingly predictable” category rather than genuinely shocking. You can usually feel the film nudging you toward where it’s heading, but it keeps enough energy and style in reserve that the journey still works. What I liked is that it sits a little above pure background cinema. You don’t need to intensely focus on every line of dialogue to understand what’s happening, but it also isn’t so empty that your brain completely switches off. It’s glossy, fast-moving, and just self-aware enough to avoid collapsing under its own absurdity. In the end, this is one of those movies you enjoy more for the vibe and performances than for the mystery itself. It knows exactly what sort of film it is and doesn’t pretend otherwise. 🍸 A chilled martini with too much garnish — stylish, a little ridiculous, and surprisingly enjoyable once you settle into the mood.
- dial14August 20, 2025It has some snappy banter, and a whiff of the delicious tension between Stephanie and Emily that emerged in the third act of the original, but the mystery is all just smoke and mirrors, and by the end the plot is revealed as dumb. Emily still swaggers, but she's not the razor-tongued bad-ass fem fatal she was in the first one. In fact, instead of a sly and manipulative sociopath, she turns out to have somehow become downright wholesome. I guess our "correctional facilities" really live up to their name in this reality. If you want to revisit the world of A Simple Favor, this will give you a taste of nostalgia, and it has enough twists to keep you entertained if you set your bar low. Just know going in, that the first one was brilliant, and this one is just the ride and the merch at Disneyland.
- Poulsen80July 26, 2025I will admit, I can't remember watching the first movie "A Simple Favor" - but the characters still seemed so recognizable. This ain't gonna win any titles as best movie of the year, but damn it's an easy going movie, we didn't find ourselves bored at any time through the approximately 2 hours it lasted. So it falls under the category, mehhhh, but with a thumbs up, so it clocks in just above average. So do you need an easy going, with some smaller giggles with a twist..... Give it a chance and watch it.
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025I think I might have had a better time at this if I had rewatched the original more recently. This felt pretty reliant on remembering events of the first film. It’s not that I couldn’t follow what was happening, just that there are a lot of references to events of the first that probably make it a little more meaningful. The locations and outfits are all gorgeous and it’s another twisty (perhaps too twisty) murder mystery. I liked the performances as well up until right around a truth serum scene. After that point, things get a little nutty, for plot reasons. I might have been at 3 stars at that point, but the film went on a bit too long after that point. A digital release makes complete sense for this one.
- Megan CruzJune 1, 2025The reason why it’s such a bummer that this film is so forgettable is because the first was miraculous. I rewatched A Simple Favor after watching this and it’s genuinely stunning how much risk and style is that film that lays off beautifully. It’s rare to get a film so absurd and self aware that’s also exciting and bold. Which is why this sequel is so disappointing. While it doesn’t reach the lows of something like Disenchanted or Hocus Pocus 2, it’s an incredibly lackluster follow up that simply cannot justify its own existence. No matter how much charm its leads bring to the table.
- EdwardMay 28, 2025The first movie had a tight plot that paid off. Meanwhile, from the get go, this movie's plot is closely strung together, introducing too many characters that we never really care about. At no point did I feel suspense. With that said the last 30 minutes pull things together in a somewhat satisfactory way. I just wish they would have cut out a good chunk of the beginning that contributed little to the end result.
