- SpikyCactusAugust 2, 2026Top badass moment? The names of all the spaceships etc. Nice and succinct… A pervy, submissive, somewhat autistic (and borderline sociopathic) android (called Max), who wears a wig, plays with dolls and clearly missed their last appointment at the dentist, spends most of their time playing computer games, listening to rock music and lusting after women. The latter is a bit unfortunate, as its only companion (and boss) on a large space station is a rather abrupt scientist, who’s work seems to be entirely focused on creating a female android for some reason; I’m not entirely clear why, although I could probably make a decent guess if pushed to. To be brutally honest, Max isn’t exactly Lieutenant Commander Data. (Hope you noticed how woke I’m being here; I’ve not arbitrarily drawn any conclusions as to their preferred gender, preferring to use they/them, even though they do appear male. I’m just so hip, on-trend and up-to-date, I scare myself sometimes.) Fortunately, a damaged spaceship needs to dock with the space station to affect some emergency repairs, and the ‘crew’ includes a very attractive woman. (And don’t panic, this film was made in the early 80’s, so she does briefly take her top off a few times). Needless to say, absolutely everyone else (well the four other characters) all fancy her, although one appears to be her boyfriend. Now, I’m not a councillor or anything, but the relationship does seem to be pretty toxic, especially towards the end. Beyond a certain physical attraction, I wasn’t sure they had a lot in common, and my initial, long-term prognosis for the relationship wasn’t good and didn’t improve as time passed. This feeling wasn’t helped by the fact that she seemed to get the hots for Max, as well. I got the distinct feeling that she’d not had many stable relationships in her life. I felt a bit sorry for her, as she seemed quite intelligent. I think she’d just had some bad luck or made a few poor decisions (like we all do from time to time) and ended up in with the wrong crowd. Sorry, maybe I’m overanalysing things a bit… Anyway, the S.E.R.P. Minos E 608 then arrives and everything turns to shit. The entirely inappropriate Spanish flamenco guitar style outro music is a highlight worth hanging about for. Technically it adequate, the plot sort of makes sense, the script’s limited and the acting’s patchy but serviceable; Max is pretty good actually. 1 decapitation (and it’s not what I was expecting), no cats or chainsaws.
