A brilliant and complex film that isn’t meant to be passively watched, but actively engaged with by thinking and judging for yourselves. The acting was just superb from Sandra Hüller and the kid actor is so talented at his age. Even the dog deserves an award. I love this movie because it unfolds slow and steady as it continues to give you more information but at the same time confuse you by raising more questions. I’m left with a lot to think about but this is undeniably one of the most interesting movies of the year.

This movie has been out for a while so I probably don’t have much to add, but I just gotta say, the French courtroom vibe is waaaaay more cool and fun than the American courtroom. Can we get some more French energy in our judicial system? I also loved the use of language — a German and a Frenchman using English for a middle ground in comprehending each other, but maybe that was the exact cause of their chasm.

This is an interesting one, where my perception of the movie has improved quite a bit from my initial viewing. I went in expecting a murder mystery/legal thriller. And I don't think that is what this movie is. It's a bit dry, a bit overlong, and slow. However, that is not to say it is a bad thing, just very different from what I was expecting. I will highlight that I don't think this is an exploration on the subjective nature of truth a la Rashomon or anything. Instead, it's a very well acted movie (especially from the dog) that examines a failing marriage and utilizes the trial format to explore what is left unsaid in these types of relationships. This theme is something I've seen movies become more interested in recently, and I find it fascinating. It does such a good job of exploring this marriage from so many different angles and perspectives that I now really respect how the movie puts the actual viewer on trial in addition to the characters.

2 hours and 31 minutes...About 45 minutes too long. The previews are better than the movie

Slow start but it quickly becomes engaging. Oscar well deserved!

Brilliant performance from Sandra Hüller as a woman on trial for the suspected murder of her husband. The details of Sandra and her husband’s relationship and family life are put under a microscope. As the story delicately unfurls, it highlights the manner in which lucid memories can become clouded, testimonies can be twisted and makes you wonder whether your own relationship would ever hold up to uncompromising scrutiny. Hüller magnificently displays a dynamic range of emotions—grief in her loss, frustration and defensiveness in being the accused, compassionate and resolute in being there to support her son. It’s one of my favorite performances of the year. Plus it has a Long Cold Open. Highly recommend, and was 🤏🏼 close to a 4.5 if the ending had been a little stronger.

It's like a true crime documentary that isn't a documentary. As you piece the clues together, you yourself start feeling like an investigator on the case.

It's not life changing but it is a story that is gripping and very, very well told. It's like a cinematic (French) version of a well acted and well written Sunday evening ITV drama. Recommended.
