⭐⭐½ – American Beach House — Reality-TV Vibes Without the Spark American Beach House feels like it’s trying to bottle the same energy that made early reality TV addictive — the sense of watching attractive strangers thrown together and waiting for sparks to fly. The problem is that by the time this film arrived, that formula had already been done to death. What once felt novel now feels very familiar, and not in a comforting way. The whole thing plays like a scripted cousin of Big Brother: personalities clashing, relationships forming and dissolving, and drama simmering just enough to keep things moving. But without the unpredictability of real people or the polish of a strong narrative, it ends up stuck somewhere in the middle — not messy enough to be compelling, and not structured enough to feel like a proper drama. There’s nothing outright terrible here. It’s watchable, and if it’s been years since you last saw it, that probably says everything you need to know about its staying power. Faces blur together, moments come and go, and very little sticks once it’s over. In the end, American Beach House feels like a product of its time — leaning on a style that had already peaked. Fine as background viewing, but unlikely to hold your attention if you’re looking for something fresh or memorable. 🍹 Pairing: A cheap canned cocktail — easy to consume, mildly distracting, and forgotten almost as soon as it’s finished.
