⭐⭐½ – Alleycats — Fast Pedals, Soft Impact Alleycats has a premise that immediately grabs your attention. Cycle couriers, illegal bike racing, underground networks — it’s basically Fast & Furious energy, but on fixies instead of muscle cars, with a dash of politics thrown in for weight. On paper, that’s a great hook, and for a while, the novelty alone carries it. The problem is that the execution never quite lives up to the idea. The world it hints at feels more interesting than the one we actually get to spend time in, and the story struggles to build real momentum beyond its initial setup. There’s tension, but it never fully sharpens into something gripping. Eleanor Tomlinson does solid work with what she’s given, but the material limits everyone involved. You get the sense that the cast is doing their best to elevate a script that never quite knows how hard it wants to push — whether it’s a gritty thriller, a political statement, or a high-speed underground drama. It’s watchable, occasionally engaging, and different enough to be mildly memorable, but it never kicks into the gear it needs to really stand out. A decent idea that ends up cruising rather than racing. 🚲 Pairing: An energy bar halfway through a long ride — useful, keeps you going, but not quite the boost you were hoping for.
