After the death of his wife and his re-training for a new occupation as a teacher, the former Army Officer Harald Westphal finally has his life with his two daughters Maria and Floh back on track - or so he thought. Suddenly, the entire family is surprised to learn that the 17-year-old Marla, who is on the verge of graduating from high school, is pregnant. And she is not alone - Harald's girlfriend Sabine is also expecting a baby! When the initial shock subsides, Harald realizes this is his chance to make up for old mistakes. From the moment his daughters were born and throughout most of their young lives, Harald was barely home due to his job in the military. Now, he is determined to be the best father and grandfather the world has ever known! Suddenly Isko, Marla's one-night-stand and the father of her unborn child, turns up. Despite all of her resistance, she falls in love with him - especially after he strongly expresses his willingness to start a family with her. Harald, though, is far from pleased. He sees Isko as competition! Harald becomes so entangled in supporting Marla and the upcoming birth of both babies that his relationship with Sabine is seriously strained. To make matters worse, his youngest daughter Floh is feeling neglected. At one point the entire situation explodes in an emotional uproar: Sabine is moving out, Marla and Isko break up and Floh packs her bags in the middle of the night...
