- Kevin WardJuly 5, 2025Remarkable directorial debut debut from Charlotte Wells. Devastatingly subtle in it’s storytelling conveying a deep feeling of sadness throughout the film, not in the moments that appear on screen, but moreso in the moments that don’t. The moments we do see are mostly joyous, depicting Sophie (Franke Corio) and her dad, Colum (Paul Mescal) on a holiday at a luxury resort in Turkey. However, as we’re given minuscule glimpses of Sophie’s future, namely her looking back at this holiday with her dad. Wonderfully crafted by Wells and I was completely enamored by Corio’s performance. I will be looking forward to seeing more from both of them. Highly recommend Aftersun. It’s been lingering on my thoughts every since the credits rolled.
