An immersive auditory documentary that’s meant to be experienced with headphones, and what a wild ride it was. I’d go so far as to say that this was a life changing movie for me. I don’t think it’s perfect as it could’ve explored many more topics and gone a bit more in depth but I won’t fault it, because it simultaneously is also a personal doc for the director and the stories he chooses to cover are quite impactful. It reminded me to be more aware of the noises around me, to value the sounds of my loved ones in this fragile life and to capture auditory memories for future remembrance. This is a movie best experienced alone, surrender yourself to it completely and you will be taken on a journey through various different emotions and wonderful insights.
New York Times
Lindsay Zoladz
A relentlessly curious documentary...
San Francisco Chronicle
Mick LaSalle
A remarkable documentary and something you'll never forget.
Los Angeles Times
Robert Abele
Since I'd readily "listen"-watch them all, that tells you 32 Sounds and I are very much on the same wavelength about appreciating its subject...
48 Hills
Dennis Harvey
Amid the gamut of artfully assembled archival footage, interviews, animation, and hard science, we get some great trivia...
FilmWeek (LAist)
Charles Solomon
I was very interested in the subject of this film... But it just doesn't go anywhere. It's just throwing things at the wall and hoping they stick.
Newcity
Ray Pride
Immersive and singular... head trip of a special kind, taking the audience on thirty-two separate sound voyages. It rocks and rollicks: this is cinematic (and sonic) imagination at top form, sound with vision.
Culture Mix
Carla Hay
It's more like a feature-length ASMR video than anything that is extraordinary or groundbreaking. The movie is inconsistent in how it labels the 32 sounds that inspired the documentary's title. Most of the anecdotes and sounds can keep viewers interested.
Vague Visages

Green truly hears the collective subjects of 32 Sounds. Viewers unfamiliar with the director's filmography will immediately notice his open-minded perspective...
Rolling Stone

The sounds are finite, yet the benefits of tuning in to the film's wavelengths are endless. It's the greatest documentary you've ever heard.
Spectrum Culture
Alan Zilberman
A little too disjointed for its own good, Green's film nonetheless creates a kind of meditative space that is more than unusual. It is unique.
The Film Stage
Dan Mecca
As engaging and impressive a documentary as you're going to see, 32 Sounds starts with a kind of obvious--yet eminently under-asked--question: why do most of us take sound for granted?
NYC Movie Guru
Avi Offer
A meditative a sonic journey, but ultimately too broad and unfocused.

"32 Sounds" hit my sound and vision sweet spot just fine most of the time.
Eye for Film
Jennie Kermode
If you listen closely to what this film has to say, you won't listen to the world the same way afterwards.
The Weekend Warrior (Substack)
Edward Douglas
The theatrical doc version of it is just as effective, because it finds such a compelling way into its subject matter.
IndieWire
David Ehrlich
This playful and aggressively pleasant little film is an easy sit, and the strength of its individual episodes -- in addition to the echoes that resonate between them -- helps to absolve the discordant chaos of their arrangement.
Under the Radar
Kaveh Jalinous
As evident by the film's summary, sound is everything, and above all, 32 Sounds sounds amazing.
Cinemacy
Morgan Rojas
An interactive journey for those who are looking to take a meditative exploration to better appreciate the world of sound.
Austin Chronicle
Joe Gross
On the whole, it's a satisfying meditation on how we organize, think about and process what we hear.
