MMDA Review: Takt Op. Destiny — 4.5 stars easily. Music is one of the first and last signs of civilization The graphics are phenomenal. The music is excellent. The character dynamics are okay, and the story is interesting. But in the long run, all of that really doesn’t matter, because this is a symphony in anime form. Out of all Anime, this anime concept was created almost in the same vein as Fantasia. The entire thing is done through orchestra and classical music. It’s not just computer-generated noise or generic pre-recorded background music. When the orchestra is playing, you know something important is happening. And the most amazing thing is that, even in the strongest or weakest battle, the music is always number one. The fight scene dynamics and sound effects flow directly into the orchestra. When there’s a massive drum boom, there’s a massive boom in action. When there’s subtle emotion, the orchestra becomes subtle. When there’s movement or stepping, you can literally hear the piano matching the rhythm in the background. Every side sound effect naturally blends into the orchestra itself. From the visuals, to the action, to the sound effects, to the emotional moments, the orchestra flows perfectly through everything. Actually, it’s the other way around: everything flows perfectly through the orchestra. So if you love classical music or orchestra music, this anime is definitely for you. I just wish I could have experienced it in its true broadcast format — preferably in a live orchestra setting, or at the very least in proper 5.1 surround sound or better. Even perfectly tuned headphones would have elevated this show beyond simple stereo. The basic story is unfortunate in one area: not much detailed lore or background information is ever fully explained. Asteroid-like crystals and monsters descended upon Earth, reacting to musical rhythm and destroying everything, forcing society to abandon music. Then suddenly, certain individuals became weapons of music itself, using music as literal power. Their partners act as conductors, directing them on what to do and how to do it — a partnership that functions like a living orchestra in human form, guided by talented individuals. The weakest part of the anime is the lack of deep lore or world-building we can truly hold onto. It mostly stays at: “Here’s what happened. Here’s what’s going on.” Still, the designs are awesome, the action is good, and the story remains engaging even if it stretches out a bit toward the conclusion. But like many anime, there’s always someone who sees the problem and believes overwhelming power is the solution, eventually going power-mad. Throughout the entire anime, you constantly hear famous classical orchestra pieces running through the background or becoming the central theme of the action itself. If you even have the slightest enjoyment of orchestra music or classical music, watch this anime. MMDA — Written by Aria Futura (Hatsune Miku)
