- What Twisters does so well – and what other remakes should do – is separate itself from the original. Musically speaking, the films are worlds apart. No characters from the 1996 film are mentioned or make an appearance. This is wise because the film never gives us a reason to ask, “Why aren’t we just watching Twister?” Rather, Twisters bets on itself to produce equally compelling and authentic characters. And it delivers.
- This movie ruled and I wish there was a way to see it in 4D again. Pure 90’s-style gadget cinema and spectacle. A truck that can drill itself into the ground so they can shoot fireworks up it, radar imaging doodads, some sort of anti-tornado chemical. It has everything. I hope the third movie introduces another tornado that’s somehow good working with Powell and Edgar-Jones to fight the bad tornado because that’s what this movie suggested the trajectory of the franchise was.
- Great movie, if your IQ is 75. Here is my solution to making this a better movie: 1. The tornado needs to brutally kill every single annoying, self-absorbed, self-righteous, YT watching, idiot character in the opening scene. One and done. If it missed anyone, said tornado needs to turn back around and finish them off. It would be preferable if this occurred in a painful manner than involved rusty stuff that was previously hanging inside a barn, involuntary flying angry cats, or dropped them off on a sinking Titanic. Don't even get me started on that movie... 2. Run the credits, send the viewer to the exit, and give them half their money back. If this had been done, I would have watched this movie three times, and left happy and satisfied!
- Entertaining, but Lacks the Magic of the Original Classic Rating: 3/5 Twisters isn't a bad attempt at all it’s an entertaining disaster flick that manages to hold your attention. However, it simply cannot match the nostalgia and raw charm of the 1996 original. The magic of the first film sets a benchmark that this sequel just can't touch. What Works: Massive Climax: The climax featuring the massive tornado and the destruction sequences are visually striking and intense to watch. Good Thrills: As a pure popcorn entertainer, it keeps you engaged with decent suspense and high-stakes action. What Doesn't Work: Despite modern technology, the CGI quality is very hit-or-miss. While some disaster sequences look great, in many scenes, the VFX feels weak and artificial failing to outshine the practical-feeling effects of the original classic. Final Thoughts: Overall, Twisters is a decent attempt that offers good entertainment despite its flawed CGI. If you aren't constantly comparing it to the original, it serves as a worthwhile one-time watch for disaster movie fans!
- An excellent example of a popcorn movie to watch in theaters. I was very surprised and impressed by the way the movie was able to enhance and develop the characters and their interactions. That drama aspect might actually be my favorite part of the entire movie, not the disaster action. There is some cool science, a very American cultural aesthetic in terms of the costumes and music, and an excellent cast of characters. Glen Powell continues his rise to stardom, but this is Daisy Edgar-Jones' movie. As someone who has been a fan of hers since Normal People, it is so gratifying to see her star turn here, and I hope she gets more recognition and roles going forward. If I had one complaint, it would be that the movie felt a bit too long with one set piece too many, and if it had been cut by 20-30 minutes, it would have been stronger. Regardless, go watch this on the big screen.
- This does a good job delivering the kind of big-screen spectacle you'd hope for from a follow-up to a disaster movie classic. The storms are bigger, louder, and obviously benefit from modern effects, with a few sequences that are genuinely impressive. It moves at a good pace and doesn't waste much time getting to the reason most people bought a ticket in the first place. What it never quite matches is the charm of the original. The newer movie has more visual firepower, but it doesn't feel quite as memorable once it's over. The characters are likable enough and the cast does solid work, but the story sticks pretty closely to the blockbuster playbook. That said, as a legacy sequel, it does the job well. It sprinkles in just enough nostalgia to acknowledge what came before, while mostly standing on its own rather than constantly looking over its shoulder. Still a fun ride and an easy movie to enjoy.
