- Richard2026年7月22日Death Race 2000 is one of those movies that feels like it escaped from a parallel universe where subtlety was outlawed and satire had to be delivered with a sledgehammer. It’s gloriously unhinged, the kind of film that doesn’t just lean into its absurdity, it straps it to a rocket powered car and drives straight through a crowd of cheering spectators. The premise is simple and insane: a cross country race where drivers earn points for running people over. That’s it. That’s the movie and somehow, it’s wonderful. David Carradine plays Frankenstein, a stitched together racing legend who looks like he’s one bad day away from quitting the sport and starting a cult. Then there’s Sylvester Stallone, who shows up as a deranged gangster driver with the energy of someone who hasn’t slept in a week and is powered entirely by spite. Every character is dialed up to eleven and the movie never once apologizes for it. The whole thing is a chaotic blend of dystopian satire, cartoon violence and 70s exploitation filmmaking. It’s cheap, loud and proudly ridiculous, but underneath all the madness, there’s actually a sharp political edge. The film mocks authoritarianism, media manipulation and America’s obsession with spectacle… all while gleefully running over pedestrians for points. The action scenes are messy in the best way, the cars look like they were designed during a fever dream and the dialogue swings between deadpan brilliance and “did they really just say that?” territory. It’s a movie that knows exactly what it is and refuses to be anything else. Strangely unhinged and wonderful is exactly right. Death Race 2000 is a cult classic because it embraces its insanity with full confidence. It’s trashy, clever, outrageous and unforgettable, the kind of film you watch once and immediately understand why it became a legend. A perfect slice of chaotic 70s cinema.
- Plexxor the Pretty Good2025年5月26日I saw this for the first time when cable TV was just one out of town channel and HBO. It and Rollerball (being a higher end project) were both about the same level being comically fake sci fi but as a little kid I ate it up. Both were huge money makers at the time because they were so cheap to make. Very interesting what you could get away with in the 70's.
