Season 3 is where Silo finally grows from a very good underground conspiracy thriller into the larger science-fiction story I had been waiting for. The first half is deliberately slow. Juliette's memory loss works thematically, although it also feels like television machinery designed to keep Rebecca Ferguson in the season while the series adapts the Before Times material from Shift. Daniel Keene and Helen Drew's Washington storyline takes some getting used to as well. By the second half, though, nearly everything starts paying off. The fighter jets, Iran, nanotechnology, the founders, the silo project and the memory programme finally begin fitting together. The best revelation is not the nuclear explosion but the existence of Silo 1 as a living command centre whose original personnel survive through cryogenic shifts. And then “Troy” shows what happened to Silo 17. That sequence changes the moral scale of the series. These places may have been built as arks, but whatever noble purpose existed at the beginning has become inseparable from population control, information suppression and mass murder. Excellent production design as ever, strong music from Atli Örvarsson and an unexpectedly appropriate Peter Gabriel appearance. Definitely one I'll revisit before Season 4, particularly the final four episodes.

The machinery still works even when the storytelling occasionally doesn't. Silo remains a beautifully constructed world of rusted stairwells, dim control terminals, concrete corridors, and low-light cinematography that makes its underground setting feel genuinely lived in. The season also jumps between the present and the “before times” with remarkable ease. Few shows could move across hundreds of years without making their mythology impossible to follow, yet Silo handles those transitions without overcomplicating the story. The trouble is the middle, where stretched-out plot lines and too many conversational detours repeatedly sap the momentum. Rebecca Ferguson continues to give the material more weight than it sometimes earns, and the supporting cast follows her lead through the slower stretches. Then the final two episodes completely change the temperature. The direction tightens, and the tension becomes relentless. The payoffs of those two episodes hit with the kind of precision that makes the preceding slog easier to forgive. Silo spends too long drilling through the cable, but when it finally reaches the flash, the series proves it can still operate at an entirely different level.

I’m really glad they didn’t end the season at episode 9 and instead finished it with episode 10. The last five episodes carried the entire show; all that slow world‑building and character development finally paid off, even though it could have been achieved in one fewer season. The first five episodes of this season felt unnecessary and painfully slow.
