Luna. Una ragazza chiamata dalla gente come “il Sole che porta il nome della Luna” portò speranza nei cuori degli uomini, ridotti in schiavitù dai robot ormai padroni incontrastati del mondo. Briking aveva il pieno controllo del mondo e, venuto a conoscenza di Luna e del pericolo che essa rappresentava, ordinò ai tre robot, Casshern, Deo e Leda di ucciderla. Dopo circa 100 anni, metà del mondo è ormai ridotta ad un deserto di ruggine. In questo caos di morte e desolazione riappare Casshern, scomparso cento anni fa dopo l'uccisione di Luna. Casshern non ricorda nulla, la sua memoria è cancellata e impossibile da recuperare; egli non sa più il suo nome umano, né quale sia il suo scopo. In uno scenario apocalittico di un mondo ormai morto, improvvisamente Casshern viene attaccato da qualcuno che grida il suo nome.

This cold and unrelenting anime takes us to a desolate and war torn future where humanity survives by the skin of their teeth in a world where robots tear each other to pieces just to survive another day. Our protagonist takes us on a tour of this apocalypse in a metaphorical sense like Virgil accompanying Dante through the circles of hell; meeting a cast of characters that all contribute to a narrative whole by the end of the show. Very stylish, crispy animation as well as a poetic story will keep your attention despite the somber and melancholic vistas and soundtrack that will accompany you through the entire journey. Ive seen this show twice now and what I can honestly say is that this apocalyptic divergence in the world of Casshan is well worth your time if you want a slower, talking head anime with incredible action sequences in between. Give it a shot!
