Morgan Freeman could give a stirring performance reading the phone book and Brad Pitt playing himself actually works really well for this movie. The mystery and thriller events of this movie are done to perfection. The cinematography and directing were amazing. I watch this movie over and over and it never gets old. I love it!

David Fincher doesn't simply make the world miserable; he builds an entire atmosphere around that misery. The constant rain, sickly lighting and decaying city make everything feel dirty before the investigation even begins. Darius Khondji's cinematography gives the film a look that feels almost hostile, while Fincher's restrained camera work keeps all that ugliness from becoming visual noise. Morgan Freeman gives Somerset a weary intelligence that makes his exhaustion feel painfully human, while Brad Pitt's impulsiveness plays perfectly against him. Kevin Spacey is equally memorable as John Doe, playing a genuine monster with an unnaturally calm, almost casual demeanor that makes the atrocities he's committed even harder to comprehend. He never needs to raise his voice to make Doe frightening. Se7en left an imprint far beyond the serial-killer genre, becoming one of those films whose imagery, ideas and lines have worked their way into popular culture without diminishing the movie itself. The Seven Deadly Sins give the story a framework for examining how easily people can become numb to the ugliness around them, while Fincher makes sure the violence always serves something beyond shock. Its influence is obvious in the grimy procedural thrillers that followed and in the way its imagery remains instantly recognizable decades later, yet the film itself hasn't lost any of its power. Looking back at it now, the precision of the filmmaking is what stands out most to me. The entire experience still feels suffocating, and that lasting effect is exactly why I have no trouble calling Se7en a classic.

- darsan25 juin 2025i had to re-watch this cause im watching f1 the movie tonight. firstly, brad pitt was amazing in this and kevin spacey's performance in the usual suspects and this one was phenomenal. secondly, this film is even better the second time. thirdly, david fincher knows how to make great crime films.
