En Agosto del año 20XX, un portal hacia un mundo paralelo conocido como “Gate”, aparece repentinamente en Ginza, Tokio. Tropas de monstruos salen del portal y convierten el distrito comercial en un infierno sangriento. La Fuerzas de Defensa Japonesa toman rápidamente acciones y logran devolver a las criaturas al portal. Para facilitar las negociaciones y prepararse para las futuras peleas, se envía a un equipo de reconocimiento hacia el otro lado del portal.
