    ## Synopsis A freshly graduated journalist, with a sensible style, starts working as an assistant for one of the editors of a prestigious fashion magazine. ## Review I have never seen this movie completely. Sure I've caught scenes here and there, I've seen the interviews with John and Emily talking about this movie, but I have never watched it. With the release of [[The Devil Wears Prada 2]], I knew my wife would want to watch that so I thought I should know the first one. From the onset, it is incredibly cute, however, excessively problematic now. There are a couple lines where Anne Hathaway's character is shamed for being a size 6 and/or eating. Near the end of the movie she tells Nigel that she is a size 4 and it is celebrated. Then you flip over to Emily Blunt's character and you get comments about not eat for weeks to be a good size for Paris Fashion Week. I am genuinely curious how these statements from such a popular movie affected young woman and their eat habits. I know that it was a problem before this, but these types of comments wouldn't really be ok now. The story is very good however. The work to do a good job vs. not turn into something you don't want. The acting is so well done. Emily is a fantastic actress and I am amazed at her ability back then and I see the foundation of all the work I see now. Anne does a fantastic job as well. She plays a character who keeps being pushed and pushed and you feel like she can see that in her real life. However, my favorite person is Stanley Tucci. He is, while still being a part of this messed up process, a parent figure who helps out and is witty. Easily could be seen as an alternate universe dad from [[Easy A]]. ## [My Rating] For a 20-year old movie. It really does still stand up. There are still the conflicts of meeting the objectification standards toward woman. Learning to stand up for yourself. Then you just have a very funny, cute, and relevant movie. I know I harped on some of the issues with it above, but from a movie perspective, it is very entertaining. I am going to give it an 8, partially because of a bias from my Wife who loves this movie. ## [Parental Rating] There is only 1 scene that I think would cause any real issues. The rest is limited language, no violence, and no nudity. While this is not content my dad would watch, he does have 2 granddaughters and I bet if they asked, he would watch it with them. Both of my parents would. So for that and based on the rules, approved by both.

A reminder that fashion is brutal, coffee is never hot enough, and “that look” is a full-time job. Iconic for a reason. 👠

Disappointed to say the least. Why change Meril’s character to a softy when she ACE’s in boss attitude!

Ah, traditional magazine publishing. I can't think of a more stable, future-forward career choice. Surely it will work out for them both!

Meryl Streep is (once again) brilliant! She’s the perfect choice for the role. Her facial expressions are absolutely hilarious.
