- Kevin Ward3 de julio de 2025Evil Dead Rise is a bloody good time at the theater. Alyssa Sutherland’s physical performance and creepy unsettling movements make for an excellent deadite. Plenty of callbacks to the original films as well as the 2013, but at the same time it doesn’t really expand much on the lore or present anything markedly new aside from a location change out of the cabin in the woods and into a decrepit old apartment building. The family dynamic does add a layer of tension to the horrors. It would be much harder to just cut bait and run if it was close family member being possessed; and the weight of that family dynamic is felt throughout thanks to some great performances from all of the young actors. The film is really well shot making good use of the confined location. I really loved the look of the peephole sequences. I loved the cold open sequence. It features a gorgeous shot of an A frame cabin in the woods and a really awesome title card reveal. At the same time though, the opening sequence (and the closing bookend) really doesn’t tie in narratively to anything else. I had a really good time with it. It’s honestly probably my least favorite Evil Dead film, but that’s largely because the bar has been set so high. (Also, I’ve yet to see Army of Darkness). Highly recommend for the horror fans out there. See it in a packed theater, with a great sound sound system.

- Techyourlust14 de mayo de 2026If you think the Evil Dead franchise needs a cabin in the woods to work, this movie will happily prove you wrong from the top floor of a crumbling L.A. apartment. It’s a brutal, high-tension nightmare that swaps the "splatter-stick" comedy of the past for pure, mean-spirited dread. What makes it a Top-Tier entry for me is how it respects the legacy while carving its own path. It’s packed with "fan service" that rewards the die-hards without slowing down the scares. And a nugget in the movie is that voice screaming, "It’s called the Book of the Dead for a reason!" is the legend himself.

- Dario25 de julio de 2026Evil Dead Rise earns its place in the library because it manages to continue the franchise without pretending anyone can simply replace Ash Williams. The move from a woodland cabin to a condemned Los Angeles apartment block gives the film its own shape. The geography is clear, the rooms have texture and the failing building gradually becomes a sealed machine for turning one exhausted family into something much worse. Alyssa Sutherland’s Ellie remains the standout. Her possession is physical, but the real cruelty is emotional. The Deadite understands the family and uses a mother’s voice, memories and authority as weapons. Lily Sullivan’s Beth works as the counterweight: uncertain about her pregnancy at the beginning, then forced into protecting Kassie while the rest of the family collapses around them. The film has strong rewatch value because the craft is visible without becoming sterile. The sound design is dense, the apartment is carefully built, and the major set pieces have distinct identities. The peephole sequence may be the best because it restricts what we can see. The lift full of blood is the big visual quotation, while the cheese grater remains an excellent reason to look suspiciously at ordinary kitchen equipment. The weakness is emotional compression. Danny and Bridget are likeable but lightly sketched, and the neighbours are mainly present to increase the corridor’s workload. The Marauder finale is entertaining, though possessed Ellie is more frightening when she is still recognisably human. Not quite as punishing as Evil Dead 2013 and not as deliriously funny as Raimi’s sequels, but it occupies the space between them effectively. Worth keeping, particularly now that Burn and the forthcoming Wrath are expanding the franchise into a series of separate outbreaks.

Cronin is good at finding unique (read: creepy af) kids! It’s basically a spiritual predecessor to Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Less of a plot, but ultimately scarier and better directed! I’ve seen the (astonishing) opening twice before. Once I fell asleep right after bc I was blackout, and the other time I then turned off the film bc I felt the opening couldn’t be topped lol Gonna see LCD Soundsystem in September. That needledrop / remix got me quite excited Go ahead and put this in the “Kids are fucking stupid” category smh ffs the crawling around after the earthquake is legitimately insane Early possession stages reminded me of Nikki learning in Obsession Olivia Wilde AND Jane Levy lookalikes was too much for me The peephole ruled Longest Chekhov’s grinder ever Added to 24 Hour Movie People

The apartment setting is a cool change and gives the movie a more closed-in, stressful feeling where the horror feels like it’s constantly right in your face. The practical effects are easily one of the best parts, with some absolutely brutal and creative moments that fit the series perfectly. The movie is missing some of the weird charm and personality of the older entries, and the characters aren’t quite as memorable. Some parts feel familiar, but the pacing, atmosphere, and insane amount of gore keep it going. Not the best Evil Dead movie, but it’s a fun, nasty horror ride that does the franchise justice.
