  • While 🦈 "Jaws" is my favourite Steven Spielberg film. If somebody was to ask me, which of his movies is his most criminally underrated & overlooked? Then my answer would be 🚗 🚚 "Duel" without a doubt. This is a very fast paced psychological/thriller that never lets up. I find "Duel" a very rewatchable movie. And with every rewatch, I find I love it more and more. Its such a great cat & mouse road rage thriller. Love Duel 👍👍

Truly anxiety inducing and still relatable to today. Ages incredibly well. You can see how so many movies copied some of SS shots and setups. Great film.

I only know this movie exists because an older woman was the only other person in the theater with my seeing Disclosure Day and we chatted about Spielberg while walking out. But I’m glad for that interaction, because it was fascinating to see Spielberg’s earliest work for the first time, especially after growing up watching his movies at a time when he was arguably the world’s top filmmaker. Anyway all the best elements of Spielberg’s work are here, although they’re nowhere near honed to what they would later become. But his talent for tension, pacing, chases, and spectacle are all evident in this simple but effective thriller. The protagonist’s acting ability serves the story well for the most part, although he may at times come across cheesy or inadequate to modern audiences. Overall it’s worth a watch, at the very least to see where a master of the craft began. Spielberg enthusiasts, if they haven’t already, ought to give this one a watch.

“Duel” (1971) is a made-for-TV movie directed by Steven Spielberg, and even this early in his career, his talent is obvious. With very little dialogue, he builds incredible suspense using little more than a car, a truck, and an empty highway. By never really showing the truck driver, Spielberg lets your imagination do the work. If you've ever driven alone on a lonely road, the film taps into a fear that feels surprisingly real, making it an intense and highly effective thriller.

Duel is clearly a directorial debut but it’s still a really good movie. Positives: - The movie is extremely well made, well directed, well shot, and well edited - The score is really intense - The performances are really good - The main character we follow around is a likeable guy - The movie always keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat - The practical effects and stunts are also really good Negatives: - The film is clearly a directorial debut film - The pacing isn’t very good and it takes a while to get to the exciting parts Overall Duel isn’t a perfect movie but it’s a must see for Spielberg fans to see how he’s grown from this to Disclosure Day.

Superb movie - really maintains suspense throughout. At times you start questioning whether all of this is just simply in the guy's head or not. You really feel his delirium and the camera work is brilliant. Wow. Even though this movie is half a century old, things really weren't that different so it holds up. What's also the same is that fear we get when we think we're something or someone's prey and this film really plays on that: It is intense throughout. Other similar movies apparently are: The Hitcher (86), Breakdown (97), Joy Ride (01), Overtake (23) and The Car (77) so I may take a look at some of those as well.

Wow. What a film. You would never guess this was a tv movie in the States, but released in theatre's in Europe. Directed by a very you Steven Spielberg, full of action and suspense from the get go.
