Memories of a Massacre

Directed by Nicky Bolster
2024    67m
Driven by first hand testimonies, this film presents the story of the short-lived Egyptian democracy and how it was crushed at Rabaa Square in Cairo in August 2013, when the Egyptian army and security forces killed around 817 protesters as accounted for by The Human Rights Watch report. With its 10th anniversary just passed in August 2023, the film looks at the events surrounding what is known as one of the world's largest killings of protesters in a single day, in recent history. With a mixture of testimonies from survivors, archive and commentary from politicians, and the review of an expert journalist; the film gains insight into both the personal experiences on the day, as well as the wider geopolitical picture of the events that unfolded at Rabaa Square.
