This was a decent horror movie. It’s definitely nothing original, this concept has been done so many times before, but I still think it was a good effort. There’s twists that I didn’t see coming, and the eerie sense of foreboding happening under the surface keeps you on your toes the entire runtime. Changing Tatum gave a great performance, he is subtly and passively menacing and reaches a terrifying level towards the end. Naomi Ackie is brilliant too, every expression on her face guides the audience’s emotions through the plot. I think the rest of the characters are kind of insufferable and boring to follow though. Spoiler Alert, I think the worker who helps Frida remember through the snake venom is too contrived and silly, why would Tatum employ someone compromising like that on his Island. I also feel the action and kills towards the end could’ve been a bit more riveting and scary. The ending twist is very good, something most horror movies fail to land. Overall I had a good time but this movie is nothing special.
