"Fortress" explores a shocking concept which shows how easily a borderline between a victim and an attacker can be crossed. The children and the teacher, calm and peaceful by nature, when driven beyond their limits by the kidnappers, eventually respond with a cruelty and fury extending that of their oppressors.

As an Australian cinephile I am amazed I never heard about this gem until the other day. Is incredible. 1985 Australia made a lot of B grade straight to DVD/Drive in rubbish. No doubt this simple plot film was among those. But it is way deeper. Intensely 'deep' with motiffs of road kill, dead wildlife and school children celebrtating carnage but the action keeps on rolling. The young Rachel Ward (now married to Bob Brown) is the sexiest most fierce thing I have seen since Salma Haycek danced with a snake in 'Until Dead til Dawn' - the cinematagrophy is brilliant. The acting of the villains and some of the others is pure B grade or worse but this movie rocks. Perm addition to my library
