Take the foundations of 'Cold Feet', a dose of '7up', a sprinkle of 'This Life' and set it all mostly in Newcastle and you'll have 'Our Friends in the North'.
It spans 31 years in just 9 episodes dealing with a serious mixture of topics on macro and micro scales.
Individual moments can be frustrating or hammed up to the max (in the case of the Soho stuff) but the feelings you're left with when those final credits roll are uniquely reflective. You, your social group, your family and England in general are all on the table and open to exposure.
Interesting even if just for its cast who all became stars.
Not without its flaws but recommended nonetheless. To a select few I would suggest it as essential viewing.
