Kay sets out on a hike in the Canadian mountains. Her destination is Krypto Peak and Barb Valentine - a cryptozoologist who disappeared without a trace during an expedition. Possessed by a mysterious force, Kay is drawn deeper into the forest and closer to the truth.

It's a feminist's take on Beau Is Afraid, but the story is less coherent and less engaging than that fantasy. It's not scary nor harrowing, but instead it revolves around symbolism and gender identity. The movie is somehow a circular take on itself, where it starts after it ends--and the reason for the beginning happens in the end--though the chronology of the movie appears to be sequential between scenes. The monster in this movie is every man, with the grotesque creature being equated to heterosexual copulation. The creators were trying to express how they felt, and I think that makes it incredible to like-minded people. It's very mid for a generalist moviegoer like myself.
