Critters (1986) is a gleefully chaotic sci-fi horror-comedy that capitalized on the Gremlins (1984) craze, delivering its own breed of snarling, spiky aliens to a small-town farm and spawning a cult franchise that led to four sequels: Critters 2: The Main Course (1988), Critters 3 (1991), Critters 4 (1992), and the TV movie Critters Attack! (2019). Directed by Stephen Herek and written by Herek, Dominic Muir, and Don Keith Opper, the film stars Dee Wallace as Helen Brown, a tough mom fending off the toothy critters with grit. A great cast of character actors, including—Scott Grimes as spunky teen Brad, Don Keith Opper as lovable dimwit Charlie, Billy Green Bush as the gruff dad, and Terrence Mann and Lin Shaye as a quirky preacher and nosy neighbor—infuses this B-movie with 80s charm, making it a wildly fun romp that kicked off a lovingly fun and enduring series!
