The final collaboration between Mifune and Kurosawa, and Kurosawa's final black and white film. It is Kurosawa exploring both humanism and existentialism, two common themes at the center of many films throughout his career. And he put on a masterful show of his mastery of light and framing.
It's highly underrated, as far as I'm concerned.
