On par with the previous installments exploring the 80's decade- the first part of the 90's edition isn't any different. Running to a monstrous 6 hour run time and featuring a slew of horror icons.
The very first In Search of Darkness ran like a "Greatest Hits" episode, covering nearly nothing that was obscure. Then each sequel would get a little deeper into the underground. This different approach to the 90's selecting a few years of the decade at a time to feature worries me a tad. While there are a few left field films picked to discuss- it's still mostly the greatest hits. And since the first four years of the decade are completed, that tells me there won't be a further exploration into these years to follow.
Personally I found way too many Full Moon films featured. Did we really need to discuss every sequel of every franchise Charles Band had running in the 90's? Was it worth the time talking about every Child's Play sequel too? And the usual lack of foreign language features but they are doing better. This time Jörg Buttgereit got a lot of screen time and for Asian horror it's barely brushed over by Screaming Mad George or Shinya Tsukamoto's works.
I'm an aficionado though and maybe not the prime audience. I understand many will come into this documentary and walk out with a larger watchlist. I'm still loving these docs and look forward to the next.
