Set 400 years in the future, the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continue their mission of exploration, navigating both the mysteries of the universe, and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

Seth MacFarlane’s love letter to Star Trek and it shows in every frame. It’s not a parody. It’s a tribute. The uniforms, the ship design, the episodic structure, it’s pure Rick Berman-era Trek with a dash of modern humor. Ed Mercer (MacFarlane himself) captains the Orville with awkward charm, surrounded by a crew that feels like a remix of TNG archetypes. Bortus is Worf with a mustache, Isaac is Data with a British accent and Kelly Grayson is the ex you wish still had your back. The jokes are hit or miss, but the heart is real. It tackles identity, ethics, diplomacy, just like Trek used to. And when it goes serious, it really lands. As a longtime Trek follower, it felt like coming home. Not perfect, but sincere.
