Touching trans-american road trip movie that has Will Ferrell and Harper Steele revisiting much of Harper’s old stomping grounds after her transition. Along the way they take the opportunity to examine their own friendship—how it’s changed, how it hasn’t and what it means for the both of them moving forward. Some of the setups are obviously contrived but it never robs the experience of its sentimentality. It’s moving to see Will advocate for his friend yet also recognize that his celebrity can function as a coat of armor that can shield Harper from potentially dangerous situations, but may also insulate Will from ever really experiencing Harper vantage point. Worth checking out.
