Across 110th Street

Across 110th Street
In a daring robbery, some $300,000 is taken from the Italian mob. Several mafiosi are killed, as are two policemen. Lt. Pope and Capt. Mattelli are two New York City cops trying to break the case. Three small-time criminals are on the run with the money. Will the mafia catch them first, or will the police?

Seems Across 110th Street serves as a sort of cornerstone of 70's cinema and especially blaxploitation. Exploring racial tensions, urban violence, and the socio-economic despair of Harlem it ticks all the boxes.
The structure weaves multiple perspectives, showcasing the complexities of race, justice, and survival in a harsh urban environment. Its action sequences are most impressive, reflecting the chaos of lives lived on the edge. I only wish there were more of them. Now the big highlight is Bobby Womack’s iconic title track, although I am just now getting around to the film I've had this song in rotation for a long while.
Across 110th Street remains a relevant film, offering an honest and unvarnished look at crime and morality. It didn't sit as much of a standout for me as I was hoping.
