Jim's style is hyper concentrated here with all of his trademarks and signatures all over it. It's a black n white film with high contrast and lots of wide angles so you can really breathe in the environment and ambiance which is at times nearly as fascinating as the center of focus.
What I love about Dead Man is that it's a deep movie and it's also incredibly simplistic as well. It's an adventure film centered around a psychedelic trip with the end in clear view and yet despite its morbid fatalistic plot the film ends up feeling breezy and largely comedic. It's kind of like a western version of Easy Rider. The ending is both bittersweet and serene, beautiful.
