Midsommar

Midsommar

Ari Aster has to be one of my favourite modern directors. I consider him to be a modern day Kubrick.
Stunning visual storytelling with setups and payoffs that really require a re-viewing to appreciate.
Midsommar is a break-up film which uses bright colours to flip the horror genre on its head. The horror doesn’t hide in the shadows, it’s in plain sight for all to see.
There’s no monsters or supernatural - the real horror lies within human nature.
Who’s the protagonist? Who’s the antagonist? It’s all up for debate & interpretation like all good works of art
