This is my first time experiencing David Lynch’s works and I can see why he was revered. The atmospheres he creates with the cinematography and music is very dreamlike, strange and eerie. There’s an uncomfortableness brewing beneath the surface, the mystery is captivating and the finale reveal is very satisfying. This is the perfect movie to watch twice and unpack its different characters and symbolisms. Naomi Watts absolutely killed this role, especially towards the end her range is on full display. Also the scenes of sexual tension are crazy good, that one audition scene was intense af. I loved the intro dance scene, the editing effects are awesome. The Llorando song by Rebekah Del Rio that is played on stage is so goddamn beautiful, one of the best singing moments I’ve ever experienced. It’s kind of interesting that as I was watching most of the movie, I felt it’s disparate storylines and vibes were gonna end up disappointing me or that they were possibly overhyped, I wasn’t entirely captured but by the end of the film I felt like the entire experience was High Art. Lynch has the audience in the palm of his hands and packed this film with so many layers that both deeply enhances the story as well as makes great meta commentary on Hollywood. Rest in Peace David Lynch, I’m excited to view the rest of your highly praised filmography.
