The Purge: Anarchy

The Purge: Anarchy
A couple are driving home when their car breaks down just as the Purge commences. Meanwhile, a police sergeant goes out into the streets to get revenge on the man who killed his son, and a mother and daughter run from their home after assailants destroy it. The five people meet up as they attempt to survive the night in Los Angeles.

Middling action fare (pretty standard for a Frank Grillo feature) with an on the nose metaphor on economic inequality, and systemic oppression. Plenty of commentary on American gun culture as well. Full disclosure: I’ve not seen the first Purge film, but my it was son’s turn to choose the film and he wanted to see this one, specifically. We enjoyed it for the most part. I just generally have a hard time accepting the premise. That’s part of why I’ve never seen any of these before. I plan to check them out eventually though.
