Wonderful set design, eery atmosphere, and a solid monster design make this a really good creature feature. It’s pretty light on story essentially adapting a single chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula into a feature length film, but let’s be honest. The entire draw for this film is…Dracula on a boat. And it delivers in that regard. It definitely leans in on jump scares for most of it’s scares, but there’s a good amount of other spine tingling moments as well, particularly when someone just catches a brief glimpse something in the night. The maritime setting is incorporated really effectively. Communicating via knocks on the hull, allocation of rations, managing night watches, are woven into the plot in meaningful ways beyond just setting the stage. I really enjoyed this. Worth checking out.
