After the Civil War, ex-Confederate soldiers heading for a new life in Mexico run into ex-Union cavalrymen selling horses to the Mexican government but they must join forces to fight off Mexican bandits and revolutionaries.

“The Undefeated” is a post-Civil War Western that sends Union and Confederate veterans into Mexico, using its turmoil to unite them against a shared enemy. With Wayne and Hudson as outsized leaders, it mixes action with hints of reconciliation, but plays more like a buddy film than a serious reckoning. Big in scale, light on depth, but as a John Wayne Western, it still delivers a few satisfying moments.
