When Mann puts Ferrari into Cruz’s control, you really don’t need a Driver.
This was pretty underwhelming, at best. This is more in line with the 2023 corporate biopic trend than it is a sports racing drama. The racing elements are definitely one of the standouts. The shots of bright red Ferraris and Maseratis zipping in and out of the streets of Milan and through the Italian countryside are gorgeous. Sadly we only get those in the last third of the film. Penelope Cruz elevates the rest of the material which isn’t much more than an italian soap opera / love triangle. Cruz is absolutely captivating in every moment, though. Outside of her performance and the racing in the finale, there’s not much to recommend.
