The Beekeeper Origins. 93 y/o Thelma (June Squibb) gets duped by a scammer and sets out on a revenge quest to get her money back. She cleverly employs various modes of nonagenarian spy tech (like personal sound amplifiers, life alert trackers, and a rascal scooter) to achieve her goal. It’s an incredibly fun romp carried by Squibb’s endearing performance and her playful back and forth with Richard Roundtree’s Ben (R.I.P.), whom Thelma has coaxed along for the ride. The supporting players are equally charming. Parker Posey, Fred Hechinger, Clark Gregg and Malcolm McDowell with a special shout out to Stare-y Gary, but this is Squibb’s film through and through. Definitely worthy of checking out.
