Wing and a Prayer

Wing and a Prayer
An aircraft carrier is sent on a decoy mission around the Pacific, with orders to avoid combat, thus lulling Japanese alertness before the battle of Midway. All the men have their individual worries and concerns, but become increasingly frustrated at their avoidance of combat, for reasons unknown to them. But in the end, all get their chance to fight.

"Wing and a Prayer," rendered in black and white, effectively utilizes stock footage to craft engaging action sequences. Interestingly, it garnered an Academy Award nomination for its script—a point that brings a smile, considering I perceived the plot as somewhat underdeveloped, populated with characters that felt all too familiar. Nonetheless, under the skilled hand of director Henry Hathaway, the movie rises to a level of competence, marking it as a work of average entertainment.
